Contre-jour (French for "against daylight") is a photographic technique in which the camera is pointing directly toward a source of light and an equivalent technique of painting. It's a useful technique for photojournalism and street photography as the subject is usually silhouetted and not able to be identified as well as providing an image that is striking and colourful.
